WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of Financial Research (OFR) released its 2023 Interagency Data Inventory (IDI) today. This inventory, updated annually, is a catalog of the data collected by federal financial regulators.
The IDI catalogs the data collected by members of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) and is produced for their use and benefit. For each of the 540 data collections, the IDI has basic information—such as a brief description of the collection, the collecting organization, and the name or number of the form used to collect the data. The IDI may be useful for identifying data gaps and may help Council member agencies avoid duplication in designing new data collections.
To improve the inventory’s usability, the OFR made several enhancements to the 2023 IDI release, such as:
- condensing the data type columns from seven to one;
- including a new field that indicates whether the dataset uses the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI); and
- implementing drop-down selectors for several columns, making the information easier to find.

The OFR helps promote financial stability by looking across the financial system to measure and analyze risks, perform essential research, and collect and standardize financial data, principally to support the Financial Stability Oversight Council and its member agencies. In addition, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act requires the OFR to analyze threats to the financial stability of the United States each year and provide a report to Congress with its key findings.
